Ram Singh died of hanging, autopsy report confirms

The autopsy report of Ram Singh said the main accused in Delhi gang rape died of asphyxiation by hanging and tried to dispel the angle of foul play by saying the death "appeared suicidal in nature." 

A board of five forensic experts who performed the autopsy at the Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Tuesday morning said the time of death could have been between 3:30 am and 4:30 am Monday. Singh was found hanging in his cell in Tihar Jail around 5:30 am.

On Tuesday, Tihar authorities put the other four accused - brother Mukesh Singh, Vinay Gupta, Pawan Sharma and Akshay Thakur - low all day, electronic monitoring as a precaution.Singh, who was one of six men who brutally raped women and age 23 in a moving bus on December 16, was a half-built man - weighing about 70 kg, with a height of 5 feet 7 inches.One of the doctors, who performed the autopsy, said: "There was strong constriction around his neck that could mean that the neck had taken almost all the weight of the body." According to the report, 33-year-old Singh had died of suffocation caused by constriction.Noting that there was no external injury marks on the body, doctors ruled out any possibility that Singh's body being hanged after the murder. "There seems to be true in your case."Following national guidelines of Human Right Commission, the autopsy was carried out in the chamber to ensure transparency. The report was sent from AIIMS night.Previously, the father of Lal Singh Sarna and Rama Bai's mother had said outward signs of neck injuries. But the doctor said it was not unusual in cases of death by hanging. "If the force is large enough to kill a person, she is forced to leave marks on the neck."Singh's body remained in the morgue overnight AIIMS as the autopsy could not be performed on Monday due to the completion of formalities took time. Later, the body was taken to Singh's ancestral home in the village of Karauli Rajasthan.Earlier, neighbors Singhs' cluster RK Puram neighborhood of Ravi Dass warned against what your local body.
